UFC return on hold, Conor McGregor hints at 2025 Irish presidential run.
McGregor's UFC comeback scheduled for June was postponed due to an injury.
It seems unlikely that Conor McGregor will make his UFC comeback this year, but he may use this time to strategize a presidential campaign.
On Thursday, McGregor, 36, shared a long message on social media about a possible presidential run in Ireland, stating that he is the "only logical choice."
"As President, I possess the authority to call for the assembly of the Dáil and to dissolve it," he stated, referring to a section of the Irish parliament. "Therefore, as I previously mentioned, I would provide the solutions the Irish people require from these corrupt representatives of the working class, these family disruptors, these small business destroyers, and so on."
"I would have these charlatans in positions of power summoned to answer to the people of Ireland by day end, or I would be left with no choice but to dissolve the Dáil entirely," he continued.
"As President, I would stop the train until the people of Ireland receive the answers they seek. I am the only logical choice for the role, and I am fully committed to serving the people of Ireland. The upcoming 2025 election is a chance for me to continue my work and ensure that Ireland remains on track towards a brighter future."
Ireland's president, Michael D. Higgins, is currently serving his second seven-year term and is ineligible for the upcoming election.
A major setback in his planned UFC return led McGregor to develop an interest in politics.
McGregor was scheduled to fight Michael Chandler at UFC 303 in June, but the bout was canceled after he suffered a broken toe during training. Despite his promise to recover quickly, UFC President Dana White revealed last month that it was unlikely that McGregor would return to the octagon this year.
"At the time, White stated that they had discussed and he expressed a desire to fight. However, they would resolve the issue later, not immediately. He wouldn't fight this year."
McGregor responded on social media, stating that he aimed for a fight by the end of the year after being prompted by a remark.
"Dana, let's make December a winning event to end the year on a high note! I'm heading off to altitude next month to prepare. Bring it on, December! Let's make it happen!"
Since losing to Dustin Poirier in 2021, McGregor has not fought.
