The Cleveland Browns' Denzel Ward's husband and wife chiropractic duo work with athletes on recovery.
Dr Chad Teague and Dr Mary Teague have collaborated with professional athletes such as Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry.
During the NFL season and in the off season, professional athletes undergo rigorous training programs and intense physical activity.
Stretching, warm-ups, and cool downs can be beneficial for anyone who exercises regularly, regardless of whether they are professional athletes or everyday gym-goers.
Dr. Mary Teague and Dr. Chad Teague are a husband-wife team of chiropractic physicians in Cleveland who specialize in treating professional athletes, including Cleveland Browns' cornerback Denzel Ward, to help them prepare for game day, recover more quickly from fatiguing training, and manage injuries.
"Chad stated to Planet Chronicle Digital that Denzel has been a wonderful patient to work with. He is enjoyable and strives to minimize the risk of concussions while also strengthening his body to maximize his availability on the field."
Code Chiro was founded by Mary and Chad, who have collaborated with notable professional athletes such as David Njoku, Odell Beckham Jr., and Jarvis Landry in the past.
Chad stated, "We've been fortunate to collaborate with incredible individuals."
Chad said he works with Ward a couple times throughout the week.
Chad stated that we would begin with pregame warm-up routines to prepare his body, followed by cognitive function drills to stimulate his nervous system and brain with catching and reactivity.
"Mary added that he's one of those very proactive athletes," she said.
Professional athletes have unique treatment needs, and sometimes their care does not occur within the confines of Code Chiro.
In recent years, Chad has spent much time traveling with professional athletes and offering treatment while on the go.
Chad has been traveling a lot with athletes over the past couple of years, particularly last year. He is now trying to reduce his travel and keep the athletes in Cleveland to make it easier for him.
"Chad stated that his primary objective is to have them present and establish a routine that involves recovery, acting as the general manager of all performance-related aspects. He collaborates closely with their dietitian, team staff, athletic trainers, and chef to achieve this goal."
An athlete's overall health requires a coordinated effort from multiple professionals. By collaborating, they can maintain a comprehensive approach to the athlete's health and fitness routine.
Regularly, professional athletes have sessions with Mary and Chad, sometimes even daily in the case of an injury.
Mary stated that almost every day, an injury sustained by an athlete during season requires treatment.
While treatment schedules may differ, it's common for athletes to receive care two to three times a week. However, recovery and treatment plans are unique to each athlete and their specific sport.
"Football will result in more contusion-based and impact injuries compared to other sports, but basketball also has some impact injuries. Football, however, will require more lymphatic work, neck strengthening, and exercises to prevent concussion or decrease the impact when players collide head-to-head."
Basketball players are more prone to tendon-based injuries such as tendinopathie, knee tendon, and Achilles tendon problems, as Chad pointed out.
Chad stated that the main difference between tendinopathies and impact injuries in football is the way they occur.
Mary added that reactive versus proactive care is sport-specific.
Movement is the focal point of care for Code Chiro, which operates under the tagline, 'movement cures'.
Chad stated that our main focus and educational aspect of our practice is to motivate individuals to enhance their movement and biomechanics in order to achieve their sport or life objectives, which is all movement-based.
Movement is essential for both injury recovery and adopting a healthy lifestyle, as it promotes blood flow and overall well-being.
Despite being chiropractors, Mary and Chad are also gym enthusiasts, parents, and advocates for promoting movement to all their patients.
"Mary stated that we are not just movement coaches, but performance coaches and musculoskeletal specialists. She explained that many people mistakenly view chiropractors as traditional crackers, but while adjustments are important, we focus more on movement mechanics and daily dysfunctions."
Ninety percent of Code Chiro's patients are active exercisers who want to maintain their workflow at the gym without stopping or experiencing pain.
Mary concluded that chiropractic is moving towards a positive direction,
