Patrick Mahomes acknowledges his wife's impact after Trump's praise and Taylor Swift's endorsement.
Taylor Swift and Mahomes' wife may now have opposing political views.
Patrick Mahomes, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, stated on Wednesday that he will not endorse any candidate in the upcoming election. His primary focus is on leading the Chiefs to a third consecutive Super Bowl victory, a feat no NFL team has achieved before.
During an election year, Mahomes faces political opposition in his personal life while pursuing his mission.
Brittany Mahomes received praise from former President Trump during an interview with Planet Chronicle on Wednesday, after Taylor Swift, the girlfriend of Mahomes' longtime teammate and friend, Travis Kelce, announced her endorsement for Vice President Kamala Harris the previous night. Trump stated that he preferred Brittany Mahomes over Swift.
"I actually prefer Mrs. Mahomes over Brittany. She's a big Trump fan," Trump stated on "Fox & Friends."
During a press conference on Wednesday, Patrick Mahomes was questioned about the previous president's remarks as the Chiefs prepare to play the Cincinnati Bengals.
The QB stated, "I believe you can observe that Brittany is very active in the community."
"Despite the political climate, I will continue to conduct my daily business to the best of my ability, and not let the actions of others affect my efforts."
Recently, Brittany has been the center of intense online debate among fans and critics. This began with a single Instagram like of Trump's 2024 policy platform on August 13. The image quickly spread across social media, leading to a backlash so severe that the pregnant mother felt compelled to defend herself and her beliefs.
She later liked a comment that said "TRUMP-VANCE 2024" on one of her Instagram posts.
Several instances of Brittany's like going viral were caused by online Taylor Swift fan pages. Swift has been endorsing Democratic candidates since 2018, including Phil Bredesen and Jim Cooper in the 2018 U.S. midterm elections in Tennessee.
Since her surge in popularity from her Eras Tour and public relationship with Kelce, she has endorsed Joe Biden for president in 2020 and her endorsement of Harris Tuesday arguably has a stronger impact.
Several publicized moments occurred between Swift and Brittany during Chiefs games due to Swift's relationship with Kelce.
On Sunday in New York, Patrick, Brittany, Swift, and Kelce watched the U.S. Open men's singles final, with the Chiefs winning their opening night game on Thursday, freeing them up to witness Italian Jannik Sinner defeat American Taylor Fritz in a luxury section of Arthur Ashe Stadium. Brittany and Swift were seen hugging and talking during the event.
Brittany and Swift had a history of sitting together in suites when Swift started going to games last year after publicizing her relationship with Kelce. However, on opening night last week, the two were in separate suites at Arrowhead Stadium, despite their U.S. Open appearance coming days after.
The endorsement of Harris by Swift has sparked speculation about whether Kelce will also endorse a candidate.
Kelce and Swift shared values after starting to date in March, both being 33 years old.
"Kelce stated that he believes people are fascinated by their relationship because they stand for values and are just people who love to shine light on others and those who support them. Additionally, he mentioned that they both have a love for life."
Patrick and Brittany have a different love story.
Brittany and Patrick, both born and raised in east Texas, began dating while attending Whitehouse High School in Whitehouse, Texas. Whitehouse, with a population of approximately 8,500, has a history of voting Republican, as per Data USA. The couple tied the knot in March 2022 and are parents to two children, a 3-year-old daughter named Sterling Skye and a 1-year-old son named Patrick "Bronze" Lavon Mahomes III.
Patrick wished Brittany a happy birthday on August 31, just after scrutiny about her liking Trump's Instagram content began.
Brittany revealed on the "Whoop" podcast that she has relied on her three-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback spouse to help her cope with the recent media attention.
"Having him beside me and guiding me through it has helped a lot. I think that’s kind of gotten to where we are at now," she said.
"She said that the main thing he always told her was, 'Stop caring about what people think, especially those who don't know you,' and that social media used to get her a lot, but now she doesn't care what people say about her on social media anymore."
Brittany wrote on her Instagram story on Aug. 26 that she and Patrick may have different opinions on certain matters. However, she emphasized that it is possible to disagree with someone and still love them. She also pointed out that having different perspectives does not necessarily mean being unkind to one another.
Patrick has consistently maintained a neutral stance on politics and has never publicly supported any political figure or affiliation. He reiterated this stance in an interview with Time in April, stating that he would not disclose who he would vote for in the upcoming election. He remained steadfast in his belief on Wednesday.
"Mahomes emphasized that he does not want his platform to be used to endorse a candidate or do anything else, and instead, he believes his role is to inform people about voter registration and encourage them to make informed decisions based on their own research."
