More than $350,000 was raised for the pregnant wife of Matthew Gaudreau during a fundraiser.
An alleged drunk driver struck and killed Matthew and Johnny Gaudreau while they were cycling.
The Gaudreau family has received an outpouring of support following the tragic deaths of NHL player Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew.
A GoFundMe campaign was established for Matthew's wife, Madeline Gaudreau, who is pregnant with their first child, due in late December.
The campaign aims to assist Matthew's wife, Madeline, and their newborn son Tripp during this challenging period by providing financial support and alleviating some of the burdens they currently face.
By Saturday afternoon, the fundraiser had raised more than $365,000, surpassing its goal of $30,000, with several NHL players among the contributors.
Some donations included variations of Johnny Gaudreau's No. 13 jersey, which he wore with both the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Calgary Flames.
Matthew's funeral expenses and baby Tripp will be covered by the donations.
On the night before their sister's wedding, the Gaudreau brothers were killed while cycling in New Jersey when 43-year-old Sean Higgins struck them from behind, allegedly under the influence of alcohol.
The Gaudreau brothers were remembered for their talent on the ice and their kindness, as the sports community mourned their deaths on Friday and countless tributes poured in.
Several sporting events held moments of silence.
On Thursday night, Higgins was arrested and charged with driving under the influence after confessing to consuming five to six beers and driving while intoxicated. The judge ordered him to remain in custody until his next court hearing.
Higgins was accused of two counts of causing death by car, reckless driving, having an open container in the vehicle, and drinking alcohol while driving.
