Maryland quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. was hit violently by a UConn defensive back, resulting in the latter's ejection.
UConn trailed Maryland 23-0 at halftime.
On Saturday, during the game between UConn and Maryland, defensive back Jordan Wright was disqualified after his tackle on quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. was deemed a targeting infraction.
In the second quarter, Maryland's new starting quarterback, Edwards, took off to scramble for a first down in an open field.
As UConn defenders closed in, Edwards slid with the ball. At that moment, Wright, a graduate student, drilled the quarterback with a late and high hit.
The hit caused Edwards to fall to the ground, and his helmet came off his head.
Before halftime, Wright was ejected for targeting, leaving Maryland leading 17-0.
After the 15-yard penalty was negated, Maryland offensive tackle Andre Roye reportedly intervened, resulting in a 23-0 lead for the Terrapins before halftime.
In his first season with Huskies, Wright has previously played for two seasons at Kansas State, where he played in 13 games, totaling eight tackles and two pass deflections.
Despite not being shaken by the hit, Edwards completed 20 passes for 311 yards and two touchdowns in the fourth quarter, leaving Maryland leading 43-7.
