Caitlin Clark is currently leading the race for Rookie of the Year, as Angel Reese has announced the end of her season.
In the Rookie of the Year race, Reese set a new single-season record for rebounds, giving her a significant advantage over Clark.
Angel Reese, the rookie of the Chicago Sky, declared on X that her season is over due to an injury sustained on Saturday night, which made her questionable for the team's upcoming game against the Dallas Wings.
Reese wrote, "I am filled with emotions as I face a season-ending injury, but also filled with gratitude for what lies ahead. Although this is not my timing, I am grateful for the physical and mental break that comes with it. 'God gives his hardest battles to his strongest soldiers,'" he wrote.
In her rookie year, Reese set a new record for most rebounds in a single WNBA season and most rebounds per game with 13.1.
In the Sky's 79-74 loss at Minnesota on Sept. 1, Reese surpassed Sylvia Fowles' record of 404 set in 2018, beating the record by one just a year after Jonquel Jones recorded 403. Reese accomplished the feat in just 23 games.
If Joakim Noah had a say, he would vote for Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese over Caitlin Clark for WNBA's Rookie of the Year.
Noah remarked that when he observed her playing, it brought back memories of himself.
Clark has surpassed the Fever's single-season record for assists in a loss to Minnesota on Friday.
Reese's 13.1 rebounds per game were more than double Clark's 5.8 per game.
In two out of four head-to-head matchups this year, Reese has outperformed Clark in both points and rebounds, while Clark has outperformed Reese in assists in all four meetings.
In the first episode of her podcast on Thursday, Reese spoke about her rivalry with Clark, expressing tremendous respect for him and stating that they have no ill-will toward each other despite their longstanding rivalry dating back to their college days.
Reese criticized Clark's devoted followers for harassing her.
Reese stated that he believes it's the fans, specifically her fans, who are devoted to her, and he respects their loyalty. However, he added that sometimes their behavior can be disrespectful, and he believes there is a lot of racism involved in their support.
As an alleged example of their rivalry, Reese mentioned death threats and people visiting her home.
Reese stated, "Following me home, people have arrived at my address."
Some fans have allegedly created AI-generated images of Reese without clothes and sent them to her family members, according to Reese.
"On multiple occasions, individuals have created AI-generated images of me naked and sent them to my family members, who are like uncles, asking, 'Are you naked on Instagram?'" Reese stated. "It's disheartening to see others go through the same experience."
In the WNBA Draft this past year, Clark was picked first overall by the Indiana Fever and Reese was selected seventh overall by Chicago. Both rookies were named to the WNBA All-Star Game in July.
