In his first season after Jim Harbaugh's departure to the NFL, Michigan's head coach Sherrone Moore struggled to provide solutions on both sides of the ball, revealing the team's weaknesses early on.
In the first half, Texas was almost flawless on third down, scoring 279 yards of offense compared to Michigan's 88. Ewers played exceptionally well, completing 18 of 26 passes for 203 yards and two touchdowns, giving Texas a commanding 24-3 lead at halftime.
Although Michigan quarterback Davis Warren initially had only 49 passing yards, he improved significantly in the second half, throwing for 204 yards and a touchdown. However, the touchdown arrived too late, and Michigan's defense struggled to keep up with offensive coordinator Kyle Flood's strategy.
Losing the turnover battle only matters worse.
Ewers led Texas to a 2-0 record with two consecutive impressive performances, including a 260-yard passing effort and three touchdowns in a 52-0 victory over Colorado State last week.
As an SEC school in its first season, Texas appears to have a shot at competing for both conference and national titles.
The loss of Harbaugh and 13 players to the NFL at the end of last season has cast doubt on Michigan's ability to defend its national title.
