Rep. Hunt says that the Biden campaign is "shaken" as the president loses votes in the Black community to Trump.
It's time for the Democrat Party to give black people a chance after not doing anything for them in the last 30 years.
After traveling to Philadelphia to discuss policy with Black Americans, former President Trump is gaining ground with Black voters, according to Rep. Wesley Hunt, R-Texas.
On Tuesday, Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., addressed a packed house in a liberal city to highlight the Republican Party's policies and priorities before the election.
Biden's re-election could be at risk if more Black voters leave the Democratic Party, according to Hunt, who believes Trump is driving this shift.
The discussion between Hunt and Donalds, moderated by former NFL sideline reporter Michele Tafoya, was featured in "Congress, Cognac, & Cigars." Similar events will occur in Atlanta, Ga., Detroit, Mich., Milwaukee, Wis., Charlotte, N.C., and other cities in key states for the 2024 presidential election.
According to Hunt, Trump's policies from four years ago are not exclusive to Black people, but affect all Americans. If Trump gets between 25 and 30% of the Black male vote, Biden cannot win the election.
Trump's 2020 campaign set a record for Black voter turnout, and he can build on that number in November.
Hunt stated that they are attempting to motivate voters by venturing into regions that no conservative has dared to enter in the past three decades.
"No one has been as proactive as me and Byron Donalds in taking charge and accomplishing what we've achieved in the past year," stated Hunt.
During the event, a Black woman who left the Democratic Party, along with her family, spoke out about a moment that stood out to her. She shared how the COVID pandemic made her realize that Democrats are not for her community but rather for "White liberal elites," based on the "draconian" way they were treated during the pandemic.
The same woman also discussed how Democrats "disrupted the Black family" due to welfare policies.
The conversation stood out to me, indicating that not only Black men but also some Black women are being targeted, as they are aware of the contrast, said Hunt. Additionally, many attendees revealed that they planned to vote Republican for the first time.
By engaging in these discussions, Hunt contends that the Democrats have been consistently winning over Black voters due to their attachment to the party. He believes that the Republicans can now win over Black voters by focusing on policies and avoiding race-baiting tactics.
I am not a slave and nobody currently living is a slave owner. Therefore, I don't want to hear that conversation. Instead, I want to discuss the party that will benefit us financially, how we can live the best, and in the greatest country in the world. Black voters prioritize the economy, inflation, and safe neighborhoods.
"For the past 30 years, the Democrat Party has failed to address the needs of Black people. It's high time for a change."
Biden's past remarks about Black Americans, including his statement to Charlamagne Tha God in 2020 that "If you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t Black," were not held back by Hunt when discussing the topic.
Kamala Harris had previously criticized Biden for his past views on busing and working with segregationist senators.
"President Trump's contrast is evident in the current state of our finances. We now have more money in our pockets. We previously had more funds allocated to HBCUs. We also had opportunity zones. Above all, these concerns are once again American issues. The prosperity of the Black community directly impacts the well-being of the nation."
"Black people are saying that if they have to choose between two options, they would prefer the person they prospered under more than Joe Biden, as stated by Hunt. This is why they are losing votes in the Black community."
Trump's recent shift in support among Black voters is due to his actions, according to Hunt.
"President Trump made significant progress in the Black community in 2020, despite the GOP's efforts."
According to recent polls, minority voters seem to be losing support for President Biden. In May, surveys released by the New York Times, Siena College, and the Philadelphia Inquirer indicate that Trump is leading Biden in five out of the six key battleground states where he narrowly lost to Biden four years ago.
The polls show Biden leading Trump among Black voters by a significant margin, with Biden's support dropping from 87% in 2020 to 63% in the present polls. This could be a cause for concern for Democrats, as Black voters played a crucial role in helping Biden win Georgia and other swing states in the 2020 election.
If the results stand on Election Day, Trump receiving more than 20% of the Black vote would be the highest level of support by Black voters of a Republican presidential candidate in many years.
