Witnesses of the Delta plane collision at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport recall the details of the incident.
According to audio archives, an air traffic controller noticed the missing tail of a plane.
On Tuesday at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, those who observed the collision of two planes are sharing their accounts of the incident.
On a taxiway, a Delta Air Lines jet and an Endeavor Air jet collided, with the larger plane causing the smaller regional jet's tail to fall.
No injuries were reported, and the FAA will investigate what happened.
According to the Associated Press, there were 221 passengers on the Airbus and 56 passengers on the regional jet.
"An air traffic controller remarked, "I've noticed the tail is missing on the RJ. Endeavor 5526, hold your position, and do you need any immediate help?" as recorded in LiveATC.net's audio archives."
""We'll need a tow, though," the pilot responded."
Delta said the wing of the larger plane was also damaged.
""
"Delta informed their passengers that a larger plane had clipped the tail of a smaller plane with its wing while taxiing. They wanted to ensure everyone's safety. I appreciated their transparency."
Vojnovic also posted a picture of the planes on X.
""Our flight from Atlanta to Louisiana was terrifying as another plane clipped the back of our plane while taxiing out. Metal scraping sounds and loud bangs were heard. Despite this, we are safe and there was no fire or smoke," posted WFTS Meteorologist Jason Adams on X."
Delta issued a second statement stating that it had worked with each customer to provide accommodation on alternate aircraft scheduled to depart Tuesday afternoon. The airline apologized for the experience.
In August, a maintenance facility in Delta's Technical Operations Center near the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport experienced a fatal incident, the airline announced.
At a wheel and brake shop, two workers, including Mirko Marweg, 58, died while disassembling wheel components for maintenance. A third worker was severely injured.
In 2023, Hartsfield-Jackson International was the world's busiest airport with over 104.6 million passengers, according to a report by the Airports Council International in April. It has maintained its position as the top airport in recent years.
This report was contributed to by Louis Casiano of Planet Chronicle, Greg Norman, and the Associated Press.
