Weeks after disappearing, body of 'survivalist' photographer found near Oregon coast.
At Horsefall Beach, king tides were being photographed by Joseph Neill when he disappeared.
Authorities announced Sunday that the body of a missing photographer who disappeared three weeks ago along the Oregon coast has been discovered.
Authorities were alerted by Clausen Oysters farm workers at approximately 9:30 a.m. regarding a "possible deceased person discovered in Haynes Inlet" during the outgoing tide, according to a statement from the Coos County Sheriff's Office.
Neill's body was found 1.5 miles inland from a railroad bridge that spans the Coos Bay at Jordan Point, where his personal belongings were initially discovered on Dec. 15. The tide had swept Neill away from Horsefall Beach, where he had gone to photograph the king tides.
"JoeStrong" on Facebook shared that he was pushed inland due to high tides when he fell.
One of Neill's children portrayed him as a survivalist in a Facebook post, stating that he could create anything to overcome a difficult circumstance.
In a post, Neill's family expressed gratitude to everyone who assisted in the search.
Your unwavering support and diligent search efforts over the past three weeks have not gone unnoticed, we express our gratitude.
The Electric Hospital, the family's store, was closed on Monday to mourn the loss of their beloved Dr. Joe, as stated in their post.
"Our staff, who was like a second family to him, will reopen on Tuesday. Please be gentle with them and stop in to pay your respects. We are all grateful for acknowledging our dad, who is always on our minds."
Go on an adventure with someone you love, appreciate Creation, and honor him on Monday.
