A man from Maryland is being accused of murdering his girlfriend and concealing her body in a makeshift tomb, according to police reports.
Other related crimes, in addition to first-degree murder, are also charged against Devontae Gray.
In Capitol Heights, Maryland, a man was arrested for allegedly shooting and killing his girlfriend, and then attempting to conceal her body in a makeshift tomb within his home, as per police reports.
The Prince George's Police Department announced in a news release that Devontae Gray, a 30-year-old man, has been charged with first-degree murder and other related charges for the death of 29-year-old Alexis Schuler from Washington, D.C.
On January 18, the Metropolitan Police Department in D.C. sought help from Prince George's County police in a missing persons case involving Schuler, who had gone missing earlier in the week.
On Saturday, a search warrant was executed at Gray's home by the Prince George's Police Department, as part of the investigation.
Investigators discovered what were believed to be Schuler's remains after Gray took "extensive efforts" to conceal her body.
At the scene of the crime, Schuler's murderer, Gray, was apprehended and reportedly admitted to the crime, according to police.
On Tuesday, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined that Schuler had been shot, according to Police.
Gray was caught on surveillance video entering and exiting his home with construction materials while wearing a full-body construction suit with gloves, between Jan. 12 and 13, as revealed by charging documents obtained by FOX 5 D.C.
The video showed materials such as cement, sheet rock, cinder blocks, plastic bags, and large black storage containers.
On Jan. 19, investigators discovered a semi-automatic handgun and various cleaning and construction supplies, including fresh drywall, acetone, and lemon ammonia, in the home during a search warrant execution.
A "makeshift tomb" was discovered under the stairs with the help of members of the Prince George’s County Fire Department, according to charging documents.
A human foot believed to belong to Schuler was found in a bin located in the space, police said.
Gray has been accused of first-degree murder and other related charges and is currently in custody.
