Wade Wilson, the "Deadpool killer" from Florida, is sentenced to death for his "cruel" murders of two women.
In 2019, Wade Wilson was found guilty of murdering 2 women in Florida and was subsequently given a death sentence.
Reports indicate that a man was sentenced to death on Tuesday for killing two women in Florida in 2019.
The New York Post reported that Wade Wilson, who bears a resemblance to the Marvel Comics character Deadpool, remained emotionless as the judge announced his sentence.
The man, 30 years old, was convicted of strangling Kristine Melton to death while she slept the morning after meeting him at a bar, and later that day, he beat, strangled, and ran over Diane Ruiz with his car.
During sentencing, Circuit Judge Nicholas Thompson concurred with the jury's verdict of two death sentences, one for each murder, stating that the evidence demonstrated the killings were heinous, atrocious, and cruel, and that the second murder was cold, calculated, and premeditated.
In June, ten out of twelve jurors in the Lee County Courthouse in Fort Myers voted for Wilson to be put to death for killing Ruiz, and nine out of twelve voted for death in Melton's murder. However, state law only requires eight jurors to vote for the death penalty.
In a news conference after the sentencing, State Attorney Amira Fox, along with the families of the victims, stated that "he will pay the ultimate price."
According to FOX 4, during the trial, the defense attempted to assert that Wilson's "diseased mind" and "drug addiction disease" were the reasons for his actions.
On July 3, his legal team filed a motion requesting a new trial or acquittal, but it was rejected by the judge on August 15, according to The News-Press.
The sentencing was originally scheduled for July 23, but was postponed due to a defense request for the rescheduling of expert witness testimony.
Felix Ruiz, the father of the accused, stated, "This is not the conclusion. The true end comes when the accused takes his final breath, and I will be present at the execution. That's a vow."
