Video shows firefighter rescuing toddler from burning apartment building in dramatic early morning rescue.
A 2-year-old named Liam Keen was taken to a hospital in Fort Worth following a rescue operation in Hood County.
On Sunday morning, a daring rescue was carried out by a Texas firefighter who pulled a trapped toddler from the window of a burning apartment building. The entire incident was captured on video.
A firefighter from the North Hood County Volunteer Fire Department's Engine 26, identified as "J. Head," was recorded on a colleague's bodycam as he rescued 2-year-old Liam Keen from a burning apartment building in Granbury.
At approximately 12:50 a.m., Hood County 911 received the first report of a blaze in the 300 block of Parkwood Lane. Firefighters were subsequently dispatched to the scene, where they were given a briefing on the situation upon arrival.
A firefighter on the second floor reported having a 2-year-old.
The crew from the Granbury Volunteer Fire Department's Engine 1 rapidly retrieved the ladder and positioned it at the window. Head scaled the ladder, shattering the glass, and extracted Liam, who was directed to follow the sound of the firefighters' voices.
The firefighter remarks, "He's screaming and crying; that's good," as Head carries the boy down the ladder.
Liam was transported to Cook Children's hospital in Fort Worth for "further advanced care" after being treated in an ambulance, as stated in the Facebook post.
Liam's mother, Phylicia Keen, stated that Liam's chest X-rays and blood work results were good, as reported by KDFW. However, Liam experienced carbon monoxide poisoning.
Phylicia Keen expressed tearful gratitude for the firefighters' rescue efforts, KDFW reported.
"Thank you so much for delivering my baby so quickly," she said. "You all deserve more recognition for your hard work."
"Although we are all volunteers, we are professionals who adhere to the highest standards of training and expect the same from our members," the GVFD's Facebook post stated.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, according to KDFW.
