Video of Trump assassination attempt provides fresh viewpoint from deadly rally shooting.
Former president narrowly escapes assassination as sniper is spotted moments before shots are fired.
A new video of the July 13 assassination attempt on former President Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, obtained by Planet Chronicle Digital, provides a different perspective on the shooting that killed rally attendee Corey Comperatore and injured two others.
Geoffrey Gronski, a rally attendee, posted footage online on X that reveals a different perspective of the event. In the footage, a sniper can be seen positioned beside the former president before shots were fired.
"Geoffrey Gronski, who recorded the video, told Planet Chronicle Digital that he didn't pay attention to the snipers in the background while he was focused on watching Trump speak. He only realized the snipers were aiming their scopes towards the building after reviewing the footage later."
Gronski, a retired Marine Corps veteran, stated that it was their first time attending a Trump rally, and his wife had expressed her wish not to die at such an event before leaving the house that day.
Gronski remembered recalling, "And I was like, 'You're not going to die at a Trump rally. Everything's going to be fine.' He's had so many rallies before, but she knows how crazy the political landscape is this year."
The assassination attempt by Thomas Crooks, 20, on the American Glass Research (AGR) building raises questions about how he managed to evade security and get into position on top of the building.
The Secret Service is reviewing footage from July 13 as part of its mission assurance process.
The Secret Service pledged to investigate the causes of the operational failure to prevent it from happening again.
On July 13, at approximately 4:26 p.m., the FBI confirmed that a suspect was spotted outside the rally perimeter by vendors, around an hour and a half before Trump began speaking.
The FBI stated that video footage from a local business captured Crooks climbing up the AGR building and then moving between rooftops from 6:05 to 6:08.
According to Kevin Rojek, special agent in charge of the FBI Pittsburgh field office, the subject was only on the roof for approximately six minutes before the shooting. Between 6:05 and 6:11 p.m., he was neutralized. Later, Rojek refuted rumors that there was a second shooter.
Rojek informed Planet Chronicle Digital that Crooks flew a drone for 11 minutes during the rally, from 3:51 p.m. to 4:02 p.m.
Rojek stated that the FBI's analysis of the drone's flight path could have been beneficial for our subject in evaluating the security measures at the event.
The FBI is investigating Crooks' motive and whether he had any accomplices who were privy to the attack plan. Rojek stated that Crooks had a meticulous approach to planning the attack, considering various events and targets.
The 20-year-old gunman became intensely fixated on Trump's rally in Butler following its announcement in early July. Despite this, the FBI stated that he did not have any discernible political beliefs.
On Aug. 28, the FBI announced that a Secret Service countersniper fired the fatal shot on Crooks just seconds after the gunman opened fire.
On Tuesday morning, Pennsylvania Republican Rep. Mike Kelly, chair of the House task force on the assassination attempt, and ranking member Jason Crow, D-Colo., sent letters to five local law enforcement agencies requesting transcribed interviews and any additional information they can provide about the assassination attempt, specifically regarding planning, participation, and post-event actions and correspondence, as stated in a press release from the task force.
