Video of January 2021 pipe bomb suspect planting device outside DNC, RNC offices in DC released by FBI.
On the night before the Jan. 6 attack on the US Capitol, a suspect placed two bombs near the Democratic and Republican National Committee offices.
On Thursday, the FBI released a new video of the suspect who planted pipe bombs outside the Democratic National Committee and Republican National Committee offices in Washington, D.C., on January 5, 2021.
The FBI released a video and stated that the suspect is approximately 5-foot, 7-inches tall in an attempt to obtain new leads in relation to the crime's fourth anniversary.
An arrest can be made with a $500,000 reward from the FBI for information leading to it.
On the night before the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, an attempted attack occurred, but there is no evident connection between the two events.
"It is challenging to determine motive without verifying the suspect's identity, as stated by David Sundberg, assistant director of the FBI's Washington field office, to The Associated Press. As a result, it would be difficult for us to assert a connection, although we cannot deny one."
The suspect's gender is uncertain according to investigators.
The FBI stated that the suspect wore a grey hoodie, face mask, black gloves, and Nike Air Max Speed Turf shoes during the attack. It was revealed that less than 25,000 pairs of the shoes were sold between August 2018 and the time of the attack.
"Sundberg stated that the suspect's attire was the most distinctive feature and hoped that someone would recognize it."
Over the past four years, the FBI has evaluated over 600 tips, examined approximately 39,000 video files, and conducted over 1,000 interviews.
A video has been released showing the suspect planting the first bomb near a bench outside the Democratic National Committee building at around 8 p.m.
The suspect placed the second bomb in an alley behind the Republican National Committee building at around 8:16 p.m. and was last seen in surveillance footage two minutes later walking past a row of D.C. houses with a backpack that investigators believe they used to transport the pipe bombs.
"The FBI is still seeking information from someone who may not have realized its significance until now, the video's narrator stated. Please come forward and share that information with the FBI."
The FBI stated that the attempted attack could have resulted in fatalities, even though no one was injured and the bombs were defused.
On the afternoon of Jan. 6, both Vice President Kamala Harris and then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi were near the DNC office when the first bomb was discovered and deactivated.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.
