Video footage captures the assassination of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson on a New York City street.
Brian Thompson was brutally murdered by a suspect who appeared calm and collected.
A video has been obtained that depicts the instant when UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was shot at close range in midtown Manhattan on Wednesday morning, near the Hilton Hotel.
A masked man with a black hoodie sweatshirt and backpack approaches Thompson on a New York City sidewalk, brandishing a handgun with gloved hands.
The assailant, who is attempting to get away from the victim, smacks the gun on the side while walking toward the victim. At one point, the gun appears to jam, and the culprit fires off several shots.
The man, as he approaches Thompson, seems to struggle with the pistol and may fire one more round at the victim, who is attempting to move.
A terrorized pedestrian is seen feeling as the shooting happens just feet away.
The NYPD stated that the suspect strolled between two vehicles, mounted an e-Citi bike, and vanished into Central Park.
The NYPD released new images of the suspect Wednesday afternoon, but he remains at large.
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul released a statement on Wednesday afternoon.
"The Superintendent of the New York State Police briefed me earlier today about the targeted shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in Manhattan. I instructed the State Police to assist the NYPD with the investigation to ensure the safety of all New Yorkers. Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of Mr. Thompson, and we are committed to bringing the perpetrator to justice."
Up to $10,000 is being offered by New York City Crimestoppers for information resulting in an arrest and indictment.
