Video captures the moment a Lego display collapses onto a crowd of kids and adults during a New Year's Eve balloon drop gone wrong.
Authorities report that all injuries sustained were minor.
A crowded Massachusetts arcade was evacuated after a Lego display holding balloons for a New Year's Eve drop collapsed.
The In the Game arcade in Peabody experienced injuries when a Lego display fell from a mezzanine level.
The arcade's Facebook page announced a "Noon Year's Eve celebration" on Tuesday afternoon.
Just after noon, the Peabody Fire Department received a call regarding a partial ceiling collapse at the arcade, as reported by Planet Chronicle Digital.
During a failed New Year's Eve balloon drop, a 12-foot-tall Lego display collapsed onto a group of people, but Dowling said crews discovered it was not a ceiling collapse.
During the party, the balloons were intended to be released from the display, but it seemed like someone exerted too much force, causing the display to topple over.
Three adults and five children received treatment, mostly for cuts and scrapes, according to Dowling.
According to Turco, who spoke to WBZ-TV, the group watched the entire balloon drop without realizing anything had happened until they were about to leave immediately after the event.
"The office was in complete disarray with numerous LEGO pieces scattered about, children wailing, and a multitude of individuals present, some with ice packs on their heads and others permitting their kids to take the LEGO pieces as keepsakes. It was utter pandemonium. I was completely oblivious to the actual occurrences until following the incident," Turco stated.
After the incident, the arcade temporarily closed for a brief period as a precaution but later reopened.
The arcade is collaborating with authorities to evaluate the situation, as stated by a spokesperson to Planet Chronicle Digital.
