On Thursday afternoon in Irvine, California, a UPS driver was shot and killed inside his truck, leading to the arrest of a suspect by the police.
According to Irvine police on Facebook, the shooting occurred at approximately 3 p.m. near Chrysler and Bendix in the city.
The UPS driver was on a break and eating in his truck when a suspect, who has not been identified, arrived in a pickup truck and began shooting. According to police, the shooter was wearing a face mask.
According to Davies, officers are investigating whether the driver and suspect were acquainted and if there was a possible motive for the shooting.
"Davies stated that the relationship between these two gentlemen is unknown, and the incident appeared to be targeted, not a robbery."
Authorities found the truck of the suspected shooter near Santiago Canyon Road and the Toll Road a few hours later, at around 6 p.m. The suspect barricaded himself inside his vehicle, but was eventually forced out of it after a chemical agent and a police dog were deployed, Davies said.
"Our SWAT team lured or forced him out of the vehicle, but he is alive," Davies stated.
The UPS driver was a familiar figure in the community and usually ate his lunch at the same spot.
Kevin Sanchez stated that the slain driver was a friendly gentleman who never displayed any negativity or attitude. He was like a typical delivery guy, and the outlet learned that he had delivered their packages for years.
UPS stated that it will cooperate with authorities to investigate the cause of the driver's death.
