On Sunday, the Los Angeles Police Department received a potential burglary call at Vice President Harris' home in Brentwood, California, located within the Palisades Fire evacuation zone. According to local reports, the LAPD confirmed that officers detained two people at Harris' home during the 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. local time curfew. The call reporting the potential burglary at Harris' property on Bundy Drive, north of Sunset Drive, came into the West Los Angeles station around 4:40 a.m. KTLA reported. Officers responded to the scene and found two men in the area.
The LAPD initially detained two individuals for breaking curfew but later released them, stating that no evidence indicated a crime was being committed, according to KTLA.
According to KNBC, the two men were not on Harris' property when they were detained and there was no evidence that they had entered the vice president's property. One law enforcement source told KNBC that "they likely had no idea where they were."
The reason for the pair's presence near Harris' property and whether the matter would be investigated further is unclear.
The LAPD was not immediately reached for comment by Planet Chronicle Digital on Sunday.
The U.S. Secret Service, along with the California Highway Patrol and the LAPD's Metropolitan Division, Dignitary Protection Detail, protects Harris' home.
On Saturday, the Palisades Fire advanced towards Brentwood as high winds were predicted to return, making the response more challenging. CAL Fire's most recent update stated that the Palisades Fire is currently 11% contained and has burned a total of 23,707 acres.
The Palisades Fire resulted in the death of five individuals, bringing the total number of wildfire fatalities in California to at least 16 as of Sunday morning, according to the Los Angeles County medical examiner.
