On Monday, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York announced that Anthony Saccavino and Brian Cordasco were charged with bribery, corruption, and false statements.

According to U.S. Attorney Damian Williams, two individuals and an unnamed third party are accused of soliciting and accepting bribe payments from at least 2021 through 2023. The total amount of bribes allegedly received is over $190,000, which was paid in exchange for "priority access to the Bureau of Fire Prevention," Williams stated.

The bureau's approval is necessary for buildings to be open to the public or occupied, and they operate on a first-come-first-served basis, as explained by Williams.

Williams claimed that they created a VIP lane for faster service that could only be accessed with bribes.
