Trump supporter removed from FEMA role for directing hurricane relief away from their homes.
FEMA instructed workers to avoid homes displaying Trump in Lake Placid, Florida.
A FEMA official who instructed Hurricane Milton relief workers to skip homes with Trump signs has been removed from her role, and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is investigating the federal agency over the controversy.
According to internal messages obtained by the Daily Wire, a FEMA official instructed workers canvassing Lake Placid in Florida to "avoid homes advertising Trump" while determining what residents could qualify for federal aid.
According to The Daily Wire, government employees bypassed at least 20 homes with Trump signs or flags from October to November due to "best practices" guidance from the official. The workers wrote messages such as "Trump sign no entry per leadership" in a government system.
A FEMA spokesperson has stated to Planet Chronicle that they are "deeply troubled" by the actions of the employee and that it is an "isolated incident."
The spokesperson stated that FEMA assists all survivors, regardless of their political beliefs or affiliations.
"We have removed the employee from their role and are investigating the matter to prevent a recurrence of this isolated incident."
It is unclear if the official was fired from the agency altogether.
"The employee who issued the guidance had no authority and was not directed to tell teams to avoid these homes. As a result, some people may not have been reached. The agency has helped more than 365,000 households impacted by both Hurricanes Helene and Milton in Florida and provided nearly $900 million in direct assistance to survivors."
We are appalled by this occurrence and have taken drastic measures to rectify the situation, ensuring that it was resolved at every level.
FEMA agents were instructed not to aid homes displaying Trump signs in Highlands County, a predominantly red region in south central Florida that experienced severe damage from a Category 3 Hurricane in October. The area was hit with tornadoes, heavy rainfall, and flooding after the hurricane struck Florida on Tuesday, with President-elect Trump winning nearly 70% of the vote there.
On Friday, DeSantis criticized FEMA after discovering an official's behavior and declared his administration would probe the agency regarding the matter.
DeSantis wrote on X that the use of weapons by partisan activists in the federal bureaucracy is another reason why the Biden-Harris administration is coming to an end.
"The Division of Emergency Management is launching an investigation into the federal government's targeted discrimination of Floridians who support Donald Trump. New leadership is on the way to D.C., and I'm optimistic that these partisan bureaucrats will be fired."
The US House Oversight Committee and Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., criticized the agency for not dismissing the official.
Despite the IRS's efforts to remove Gary Shapley from the agency, he brought allegations of political influence in the Hunter Biden investigation to Congress, along with Joseph Ziegler, IRS criminal investigator.
Gary Shapley, an IRS whistleblower, has been targeted by the IRS for blowing the whistle, despite FEMA not taking any action against him. It is crucial that we hold these unelected bureaucrats accountable.
"The House Oversight Committee stated that FEMA has acknowledged the occurrence of the incident but has not disclosed whether the responsible bureaucrat has been terminated. Democrats persistently defend the regulations that safeguard unelected bureaucrats from responsibility and hinder the dismissal of incompetent staff members. As a result, President Trump's reforms are necessary to hold bureaucrats accountable."
The president-elect's son, Donald Trump Jr., criticized the agency.
"Trump Jr wrote on X that the situation was outrageous, even for the democrats in charge, and should be criminal. He added that these people should be removed from FEMA, the government, and society, and a full investigation is necessary."
