Trump holds first outdoor rally in NC since assassination attempt behind bulletproof glass.
FBI briefs house task force on Trump assassination attempt in Pennsylvania
In Asheboro, North Carolina, former President Donald Trump is giving his first outdoor rally since the assassination attempt, with a bulletproof glass wall protecting him at the podium.
On the same day that a bipartisan congressional task force is scheduled to meet with the FBI about the agency's investigation into the July 13 shooting, a rally will take place.
The Trump campaign is characterizing Wednesday's rally as a "messaging event," despite anticipations of 2,500 attendees.
The Secret Service has a significant presence at the rally and has decided to safeguard the stage with see-through glass due to the close call on Trump's life last month.
A group of Secret Service agents observed Trump as he invited law enforcement officials onto the stage and later stepped out from behind the glass to check on someone in the crowd who appeared to be having a medical emergency.
Experts suggest that indoor events are generally easier to secure. Portable storage units and moving trucks were positioned behind the media riser to safeguard the speakers.
Trump and Republican vice presidential candidate Sen. JD Vance are discussing national security at a rally, specifically focusing on the Biden-Harris administration's record on Ukraine and the failed withdrawal from Afghanistan.
The FBI will meet with a bipartisan congressional task force investigating the July 13 shooting remotely on Wednesday.

At a press briefing on Wednesday, Rep. Michael Waltz, R-Fla., stated that the task force is still investigating the background of gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks.
Waltz stated that we have not yet learned much about the overseas accounts, but we know that they were located in Belgium, New Zealand, and Germany.
"Why do criminals require encrypted platforms located outside the United States, where it is more difficult for our law enforcement to access, rather than using platforms based within the country?"
Waltz urged the FBI and the Secret Service to disclose more information to lawmakers regarding the case's progress.
"It is crucial to disclose information promptly since this occurrence was not unique."
The FBI and the Secret Service cannot withhold information from the task force until they complete their investigation, as per former Director Kimberly Cheatle's instructions, according to Waltz.
"As we continue to learn, the flawed security plan's creators remain in charge of security operations, despite my frustration."
