Toddler's Sledding Accident Caught on 911 Call
North Carolina police announced the death of Ayden Sasser on Saturday morning following a sledding accident.
In North Carolina, a family's perfect day of sledding in the fresh snow was ruined when their toddler son tragically passed away in an accident.
On Saturday in Whitsett, North Carolina, Ayden Sasser was playing outside when his sled fell into a nearby pond, trapping him under the ice. The Guilford County Sheriff's Office made this announcement in a statement, but they did not disclose Sasser's age.
The freak accident in the small town was captured on hysterical audio from 911 calls.
"An unidentified woman is heard pleading with the operator, "Please, please, please. The ice is thin, and they're trying to reach him. They're trying to help.""
LISTEN TO 911 AUDIO:
Two individuals entered the lake to aid the boy who was positioned near its center.
"I believe they captured him. However, it's quite chilly," she remarked. "I'm not certain. He was inside for quite some time. He must be feeling extremely cold."
The caller, crying, says, "I believe he's not well. I'm terrified. I don't want him to pass away."
Despite the successful rescue of the child from the water, Sasser later passed away at the hospital. Officials are awaiting the final cause of death from the medical examiner.
Two first responders and three others involved in the rescue were also hospitalized for medical checks, but were later discharged after examination, according to police.
In addition to Guilford County sheriff's deputies, the Whitsett Fire Department, Guilford County Emergency Medical Services, and three other agencies were present at the scene.
Angel Nicole Sasser, the boy's mother, launched a fundraiser on her Facebook page to help her family cope with the loss of their son.
"The grieving mother wrote on social media after the heartbreaking accident: "I don't know how to move forward with my life and my baby. I have no words, no energy, nothing left. All I have is this moment, and I just want lots of love, hugs, and kind words.""
