Three teenagers are arrested by Florida police for allegedly committing an armed robbery at a memorial service.
The suspects, aged 17, 18, and 19, have criminal records prior to the alleged armed robbery.
In Florida, three teenagers were apprehended by law enforcement following allegations that they held a gun to a male victim during a memorial service for a deceased friend, and stole from him.
The Polk County Sheriff's Office announced on Thursday that five suspects, aged 17 to 19, were arrested for an armed robbery that occurred at the start of the month.
On Nov. 2 at around 8 p.m., a robbery occurred at the Aldine-Combee County Park in Lakeland. The unidentified victim and his girlfriend were at the memorial when the robbery happened.
As the victim approached his car, four masked and gloved individuals allegedly pushed him against his vehicle and placed a gun to his face while committing a robbery.
The gold chain was allegedly taken from the victim's neck by Anthony Wilcox, Jr., an 18-year-old convicted felon whom the victim knows.
The victim's cellphone, which was later found in the park, is alleged to have been stolen by Jakari Lowery, 19.
On Nov. 7, a 17-year-old student named Jadarrius Hayes was arrested at Kathleen High School by a school resource deputy. According to allegations, Hayes admitted to being armed at the memorial and pointing a gun at the victim during a robbery.
Authorities issued warrants for their arrests after a witness identified them and claimed they were believed to be armed at the memorial.
On Nov. 13, Wilcox and Lowery were arrested by Polk County deputies after Lakeland police informed them of their presence at an address linked to Lowery on South Combee Road.
Upon the arrival of detectives from the Violent Gang Investigative Task Force and Robbery Unit at the residence, it is alleged that Wilcox was seen entering and exiting the home with an AR-15 style rifle.
The sheriff's office stated that authorities surrounded the house and tried to communicate with those inside. Several individuals left promptly, but Wilcox and Lowery were hesitant to exit. Two handguns and an AR-15 style rifle were found in the home.
Both Wilcox and Lowery informed authorities that they were present at the memorial, unarmed, and did not commit the robbery after being arrested.
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd stated that despite their young age, these suspects have extensive criminal records. They were involved in a violent and dangerous armed robbery, and justice will be served. It's unfortunate that they have chosen a self-destructive path that will lead them to incarceration.
Wilcox was accused of armed robbery, possessing a firearm and ammunition, and resisting arrest. His criminal record includes being a juvenile in possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, and theft. He was arrested last September for a drive-by shooting.
Lowery, with a criminal history that includes battery, was charged with resisting arrest and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, despite having three active warrants out for his arrest.
Hayes, who has a criminal history of armed burglary of a vehicle, was charged with armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, and being a minor in possession of a firearm.
A fourth arrest was made at the home after a known gang member and convicted felon, Brent Johnson, 21, was discovered with a firearm and marijuana on him and resisted arrest.
He has a criminal history that includes charges for firearm theft, carrying a concealed firearm with gang enhancement, tampering with evidence, and resisting arrest.
