The victims of the Wisconsin Christian school shooting have been identified by the medical examiner.
At the scene, both Rubi P. Vergara, 14, of Madison, and Erin M. West, 42, of Deforest, were declared dead.
On Monday, a Christian school in Madison, Wisconsin, experienced a shooting that resulted in the death of a teenage student and a substitute teacher. The shooter's identity has been disclosed, along with new information about the incident.
The Abundant Life Christian School shooting resulted in the deaths of 14-year-old student Rubi Patricia Vergara and 42-year-old teacher Erin M. West, as confirmed by the Dane County Medical Examiner, who shared its report with Planet Chronicle Digital.
The report confirmed that West and Vergara, both from Deforest and Madison, respectively, died at the scene due to homicidal firearm-related trauma, as per preliminary examination results.
The report identified the alleged shooter as 15-year-old Natalie "Samantha" L. Rupnow, who was also declared dead at the scene due to "firearm-related trauma."
The medical examiner said that more testing is still underway at this time.
The City of Madison Police Department and the Dane County Medical Examiner's Office are still investigating these deaths, and no additional information will be disclosed at present.
Vergara was a freshman at Abundant Life Christian School and was known for being an avid reader, lover of art, and playing keyboard in the family worship band.
The family of Vergara is going through a tough time as they prepare for her niece's funeral on Saturday at 11 a.m. in Madison.
The Madison Police Department confirmed to Planet Chronicle Digital that two guns were recovered from the school following the shooting. Nevertheless, only one gun was allegedly used by Rupnow.
Rupnow was discovered with a self-inflicted gunshot wound and passed away on her way to the hospital.
Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes stated during a Tuesday afternoon press conference that determining the motive is their top priority. Although he mentioned that the motive seems to be a blend of various factors, he did not provide any additional details.
Barnes stated that every individual in the building is a victim and will remain so forever. It is crucial to determine and gather information about the incident to understand its full extent.
Rupnow's family members were cooperating with the police, who were searching his home. Barnes stated that he would not provide further information about the shooter out of respect for the family.
"Barnes stated that Rupnow's father also lost someone, so they will not rush the information and will carefully investigate."
Barnes stated that two students remain in critical condition with life-threatening injuries, while a teacher and three other students were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Barnes added that two of those individuals have since been released.
James and Rebekah Smith, whose daughter attends the Abundant Life Christian School, revealed to Planet Chronicle that they are acquainted with the victims and their families.
The Smiths stated that their daughter did not attend the same class as Rupnow, the suspected shooter, nor did they know her well. However, they revealed that Rupnow was a new student at the school who had enrolled during the current semester.
Their daughter and her friends claimed they never witnessed Rupnow conversing with anyone at school.
The teacher who was killed had a daughter who played sports with Rebekah Smith's daughter, and they frequently communicated with the mother during games.
This year, the victim became a full-time teacher at the school after being a long-term substitute teacher.
