The search for accomplices in the New Orleans attack continues, with the state AG threatening the death penalty.
Before the truck attack, Shamsud-Din Jabbar pledged loyalty to the Islamic State.
On Wednesday, a shootout between police and Shamsud-Din Jabbar, who drove a truck into a New Orleans crowd, resulted in his death. Authorities are still searching for potential accomplices.
Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill stated to Planet Chronicle that there is proof that Jabbar collaborated with accomplices to orchestrate the attack, although she and other officials have declined to provide further details. Jabbar's attack resulted in the deaths of at least 15 individuals and injuries to many others.
In Louisiana, we will continue to enforce the death penalty. Murrill wrote on X.
The FBI's investigation into Jabbar's attack has expanded to multiple states, but the number of potential accomplices is still unknown. Prior to the attack, Jabbar had posted videos on social media pledging allegiance to the Islamic State.
"The FBI and its law enforcement partners are currently executing court-authorized search warrants in New Orleans and other states. The FBI's Evidence Response Team is also meticulously gathering all relevant evidence from the crime scene."
The FBI believes that the driver did not act alone in the incident. Investigators discovered firearms and an improvised explosive device in Jabbar's truck, as well as other devices in the French Quarter.
Jabbar, a native of the U.S. born in Texas, had previously served in the military. The investigation into how and when he became radicalized is ongoing.
From March 2007 to January 2015, Jabbar worked as a Human Resource Specialist and IT Specialist in the Army.
From January 2015 until July 2020, he served as an IT Specialist in the Army Reserves after completing active duty.
From February 2009 to January 2010, he served in Afghanistan during his tenure.
Authorities have already searched an AirBnB in New Orleans and are currently executing a search warrant at Jabbar's main residence in Houston, Texas.
The Sugar Bowl has been postponed from Wednesday night to Thursday night due to the attack. Some officials have suggested delaying the event even further.
Trump accused Jabbar of being violent and the current administration of being incompetent and corrupt, urging the CIA to investigate.
The explosion of a Tesla Cybertruck outside the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas led to his statement, but it is still uncertain whether the bombing, which resulted in one death, is related to the New Orleans attack.
Trump wrote on social media: "Our country is a laughing stock worldwide due to open borders, weak leadership, and ineffective law enforcement. The DOJ, FBI, and Democrat prosecutors have failed to do their job, being incompetent and corrupt. They have spent their time attacking me politically instead of protecting Americans from violent criminals inside and outside our government and nation."
The country is experiencing a violent erosion of safety, national security, and democracy. Democrats should be ashamed for allowing it to happen. The CIA must act now to prevent it from getting worse. Only strong leadership can stop it. The USA needs to be made great again.
