The remains discovered are confirmed to be those of the missing 3-year-old Elijah Vue, according to Wisconsin police.
An Amber Alert for missing person Elijah Vue was canceled on Friday, according to police.
Police announced on Friday that the skeletal remains discovered in Wisconsin over the weekend were those of a missing 3-year-old boy who disappeared in February.
Elijah Vue's remains were confirmed by the Two Rivers Police Department, who issued an Amber Alert when he disappeared.
"The family, community, and I are devastated by the loss of Elijah," said Two Rivers Police Chief Benjamin Meinnert. "I never met Elijah, but I watched that 3-year-old boy bring out the best in this community."
The alert was canceled Friday.
The search for a missing boy has turned into a death investigation, the chief announced.
Authorities stated that a skull and bones were discovered by a deer hunter in a private land wooded area in Two Rivers on Sept. 7. Despite multiple searches of the area by authorities and the landowner, no other remains were found.
The DNA testing on the remains revealed an identity, which was immediately identified as Vue's family, according to police.
In February, Vue disappeared from his Two Rivers home. His mother, Katrina Baur, and her boyfriend, Jesse Vang, were charged with child neglect, although they were not directly linked to his disappearance, according to Fox Milwaukee.
