The mystery of the deaths of Kansas City Chiefs fans remains unsolved a year later.
On January 9, 2024, Clayton McGeeney, Ricky Johnson, and David Harrington were discovered deceased in Jordan Willis' Kansas City backyard.
Three Kansas City Chiefs fans disappeared in a snowy backyard a year ago and the cause of their deaths remains unknown, with no criminal charges filed by authorities.
On January 7, 2024, Clayton McGeeney, Ricky Johnson, and David Harrington visited their friend Jordan Willis' home in Kansas City to watch the Chiefs play the Los Angeles Chargers.
The three men were discovered dead on Willis' property three days later by McGeeney's fiancée. Despite attempts to contact him, Willis could not be reached by phone or at his door, according to family members who searched for the missing friends.
Despite preliminary autopsy results suggesting the presence of fentanyl, cocaine, and marijuana in the deceased men's systems, their families have questioned Willis' involvement in the incident and threatened to file lawsuits.
In the near future, prosecutors will bring charges against Willis, as stated by his attorney John Picerno in a conversation with Planet Chronicle Digital.
"Picerno stated confidently that his client would not be charged for any involvement in the untimely deaths of his friends."
Picerno stated that if someone had given the young men drugs, they could be held criminally liable for a felony murder charge.
No updates have been reported since Picerno and the attorneys for the men's family members made the statement.
On January 7th, a fifth individual was present in Willis' residence at Northwest 83rd Terrace, according to a report by Planet Chronicle Digital. However, this individual informed Fox 4 that he departed the premises prior to the men's disappearance, and he emphasized that he was not the final person to interact with them alive.
Planet Chronicle Digital was unable to contact the attorney for the fifth man.
In September, Picerno stated that the probe's length, which the Kansas City Police Department has consistently described as a death investigation rather than a homicide investigation, is "unusual."
Early in the investigation, his client willingly surrendered all electronic devices and provided DNA samples to the police.
"Picerno stated that he was unsure what led to the investigation lasting over nine months, adding that it would be more appropriate for the prosecutors to address this question."
The Platte County Prosecutor's Office has no updates or comments on the ongoing investigation at this time, as stated by a representative to Planet Chronicle Digital. Eric Zahnd, the Platte County Prosecutor, will likely release a press release when something is done, but no timeline is available. The Kansas City Police Department could not be reached for comment at press time.
Picerno stated in September that civil action is likely despite his "confidence" that his client will avoid criminal prosecution. He noted that he has been contacted by attorneys representing the men's families and that the statute of limitations on these types of cases is five years in Missouri.
Jennifer Marquez, David Harrington's mother, stated to Planet Chronicle Digital that she has not heard any updates on the case and will remain calm until she receives more information from the prosecutor's office.
She expressed her happiness on Tuesday, saying, "Of course, I'm extremely happy to hear that something may be happening."
"The families have not been informed of any information regarding the case, as they have not been relayed any details. We have not received autopsies or any other relevant information. It seems that the authorities are trying to prevent us from releasing any information that could harm the case."
"Of course, I would love to see people held responsible for this, and I believe Jordan should be held responsible because it was his home, he had the party, and, you know."
Picerno stated that Willis' life has been forever changed after he moved out of his Kansas City home and joined a rehabilitation program following the deaths of his friends.
"Picerno stated that it is difficult to navigate when people have already assumed guilt without evidence."
According to a source close to the Willis family, the 39-year-old Ph.D. holder and research scientist continues to grapple with the aftermath of the situation.
The source stated that he not only lost good friends but also had many people turn on him.
"His life has been affected by it, and he's doing his best to cope," the source stated. "He has been assisting with his dad's care this year and maintaining a positive outlook."
