The mother of the Georgia shooting suspect alerted Apalachee High School of an "extreme emergency," according to her aunt.
Apalachee High School's mother claimed to have called the school in fear of an impending disaster.
Colt Gray's mother, Marcee Gray, texted her sister after the Sept. 4 shooting at Apalachee High School in Georgia.
"According to a screenshot viewed by the Washington Post, Marcee Gray wrote to Annie Brown, the teen suspect's aunt, stating that she was the one who notified the school counselor at the high school. She informed them of the emergency and urged them to immediately locate her son to check on him."
Brown informed the Post that her sister had obtained alarming information about her son and contacted the school, fearing an impending disaster. The aunt stated that she was unaware of the specifics of the information her sister had learned.
On Saturday, the Associated Press received confirmation from the aunt via text messages, but she declined to provide any additional comment.
According to the Post, a call log from the family's shared phone plan revealed a 10-minute call from Marcee Gray to the school that started at 9:50 a.m.
According to the Post, witnesses claimed the teen opened fire about half an hour before the incident.
Four individuals, two students and two teachers, lost their lives in a shooting. These individuals were identified as 14-year-olds Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, and 39-year-old Richard Aspinwall and 53-year-old Cristina Irimie.
According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, nine individuals, including eight students and one teacher, sustained injuries.
The Post reported that a counselor informed Brown's sister on a call that the teen had discussed a school shooting that morning. At the same time, an administrator went to Colt Gray's math class, but another student in the class, Lyela Sayarath, told the Post that there was confusion about Colt Gray and another student with a similar name.
The administrator left with a backpack belonging to a similarly named student just minutes before the shooting started, according to Sayarath.
In a previous interview, Brown, a resident of central Florida, stated that her nephew had been pleading for assistance from those around him for an extended period, but the adults in his life were unable to provide the help he needed.
The Post obtained screenshots that revealed Brown had texted stating her grandmother, the suspect's grandmother, had met with a school counselor for assistance.
The grandmother texted a week before the shooting that Colt Gray would begin therapy the next day.
In December, Marcee Gray pleaded guilty to a family violence charge and was instructed not to communicate with her husband, Colin Gray, according to the Post, based on Barrow County Superior Court records.
On Thursday, Colin Gray, the father of the alleged shooter, was arrested on charges of second degree murder, involuntary manslaughter, and cruelty to children for allowing his son Colt to possess a weapon. Meanwhile, Colt is being charged as an adult with four counts of felony murder.
In May 2023, investigators were informed by Colin Gray that his son had faced difficulties due to his parents' separation and had also been subjected to bullying at school.
