The mayor's office in Denver is considering a proposal to house migrants in elementary schools.
Denver Mayor Mike Johnston's office stated that no decisions have been made.
Denver, Colorado, may use a vacant elementary school building as a migrant shelter, according to a spokesperson for Democratic Mayor Mike Johnston. The city has been looking for suitable buildings for an emergency shelter, but nothing is final and there is no paperwork yet. Denver Public Schools, which owns the vacant building, has not made a determination yet. Meanwhile, ICE has confirmed that Aurora, Colorado gang members are in the United States illegally and were released by the Biden administration. Denver is a sanctuary city, meaning it does not enforce immigration law and does not cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.
Jon Ewing, a spokesperson for the Denver mayor's office, stated to Planet Chronicle that the location mentioned as a possible site for temporary shelter for newcomers has been examined, but no decisions have been made, and no contracts have been signed.
"Few newcomers are currently in our shelter, with only around 150 people passing through our system in August, many of whom stayed for only a short time before leaving for other destinations."
GOP lawmakers have raised concerns about sanctuary city and open border policies in Colorado due to the transnational gang activity in the state. The Tren de Aragua gang has been involved in apartment takeovers in Aurora, as seen in a viral surveillance video that surfaced last week. Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna told Planet Chronicle Digital that the situation in Aurora is just the tip of the iceberg of the problems that come with the Biden-Harris administration's open border policies. She stated that while gangs overrun cities, Gov. Polis and Mayor Coffman are complicit in the violence unfolding there that is putting Americans in danger. Luna added that these criminals are reportedly involved in human trafficking and sexual abuse of minors. She urged the government to put an end to the wave of illegal aliens pouring into the country and ensure that justice is served for the victims of these monstrous acts.
The alleged takeover of Aurora, Colorado apartments by a Venezuelan gang began in 2023, according to a report. In a letter to the Daily Caller News Foundation, four GOP lawmakers, including Rep. Chip Roy of Texas and Lauren Boebert, Doug Lamborn and Greg Lopez of Colorado, wrote that the Biden-Harris Administration's open border policies and Colorado's sanctuary policies and Denver's sanctuary city status have fueled and exacerbated the immigration crisis in Colorado.
"The Perkins Coie law firm, along with local elected officials, has confirmed that TdA gang members have committed numerous criminal acts, including threats of murder, robbery, extortion, trespassing, assaults and battery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, drug-related crimes, stolen vehicles, human trafficking, and sexual abuse of minors. These policies have caused harm to non-sanctuary cities and neighboring communities, which lack the resources and authorities to manage the influx of illegal aliens and TdA gang members."
Denver's sanctuary policies and their approach to handling the migrant crisis are worsening the problem and prioritizing American children last, according to Aurora City Council Member Danielle Jurinsky, who spoke to Planet Chronicle Digital.
