The manhunt for the CEO's killer continues as NYPD divers search Central Park lake.
A substantial reward has been offered by the NYPD and FBI for details regarding the murder of CEO Brian Thompson.
NYPD scuba divers searched a Central Park lake for the killer of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.
On Sunday morning, divers were scouring the lake for evidence. The lake is close to where officials discovered a backpack belonging to the suspect. Photos and videos depict divers communicating with one another as the search continues.
As of late Sunday morning, no evidence had been recovered from the lake by the police.
The suspect escaped the crime scene and rode a bike to Central Park before catching a taxi to the Port Authority bus station. This has led police to believe he is no longer in New York City.
The suspect's backpack, which was found in the park, contained Monopoly money and a jacket.
The backpack will be sent to a lab in Queens for forensic examination, where it will undergo trace evidence processing, as stated by retired FBI agent Scott Duffey.
"Duffey explained on Saturday that the process of hair, fibers, and DNA is involved in this process. When someone holds their hand against the strap and tightens the buckle like most people do, that is likely where DNA can be found. Additionally, zippers are also involved in this process."
The NYPD initially offered $10,000 for information leading to the suspect's arrest and conviction, while the FBI later announced it was offering up to $50,000 for the same.
The manhunt has now extended to several states and is on its fifth day, with the suspect's last known location being a New York City bus station that serves routes leading to New Jersey, Boston, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C.
The Monopoly money in the backpack is the "fatal piece in a game of deception with law enforcement," according to former Washington, D.C. homicide detective Ted Williams.
He said, "This killer knew they would likely find the backpack, and they are leaving breadcrumbs to let authorities know they are in control, not them."
