The victims of the New Orleans New Year's attack are being identified by family and friends.
After a terrorist suspect plowed a car into a large crowd in New Orleans on New Year's, the heartbroken family and friends gathered to identify the growing number of victims.
New Orleans police chief Anne Kirkpatrick stated that Shamsud-Din Jabbar was "determined to cause the destruction and harm he did."
"The superintendent of police stated that the man's behavior was deliberate and aimed at maximizing the number of people he could run over."
The FBI announced that at least 15 people were killed and dozens others were injured in a suspected terrorist attack that occurred on Wednesday morning.
Dr. Dwight McKenna, the coroner of New Orleans, stated late Wednesday that they will disclose the identities of the deceased once autopsies are finished and they have communicated with the family members.
Tiger Bech, 27
A 27-year-old former Princeton football player, Tiger Bech, was fatally injured in an attack on Bourbon Street.
Jack Bech, his brother, paid tribute to the All-Ivy League kick returner who played for Princeton from 2016-18 in a heartfelt post.
"I'll always love you, brother! You inspire me every day, and now I get to be with you in every moment," he wrote in a social media post. "We've got this family, T. Don't worry."
In 2015, St. Thomas More Catholic High School in Lafayette, Louisiana announced that he had graduated.
"The St. Thomas More Catholic High School community is grieving the loss of one of their own, Tiger Bech, who passed away early this morning due to the New Year attack in New Orleans. Tiger was a 2015 graduate and excelled in football, lacrosse, and track and field."
They requested that we pray for the Bech family during this difficult period.
Nikyra Dedeaux, 18
During her New Year's Eve celebration, Dedeaux was struck by a high-speed truck while pursuing her dream of becoming a nurse.
Zion Parsons, her friend, told The Associated Press that she was struck by a truck and is "lucky to be alive."
"A truck crashed into a corner and careened through the area, tossing people into the air like in a movie scene," Parsons, 18, said to The Associated Press. "It struck her and hurled her at least 30 feet, and I was fortunate to escape unscathed."
The 18-year-old had a job at a hospital and was set to start college, as Parsons stated.
He stated that she had a plan in place, even though she still had some things to figure out.
Nicole Perez, 28
The Associated Press confirmed that Nicole Perez, a single mother of a 4-year-old son, was killed in the New Orleans truck attack.
Kimberly Usher, owner of Kimmy's Deli in Metarie, Louisiana, confirmed the death of her recently promoted manager, Perez, through her sister who also works for her. Perez was thrilled about his promotion, according to Usher.
"Usher stated that she was an excellent mother, and he established a GoFundMe account to cover Perez's funeral expenses and assist with the son's relocation."
Reggie Hunter, 37
Nola.com reported that Reggie Hunter, 37, decided to go to Bourbon Street on a whim to celebrate the new year, 2025, as his cousin, Shirell Jackson, shared.
"Just something so simple. 'Hey cuz, wanna ride me to the city?'"
Jackson, one of the dozens injured in the attack, said that Hunter died from his injuries.
