The wildfires in Los Angeles have left families homeless as frontline workers and first responders fight the blaze. The Frontline Impact Project, founded by the CEO of KIND Snacks to provide supplies to first responders during the COVID-19 pandemic, is now assisting frontline workers in LA with their needs. Catherine McCord, the founder of Weelicious, is one of the organization's partners and resides near the Pasadena area that was affected by the fires.
"McCord shared with Planet Chronicle that she has been working closely with various brands on the ground, and the brands have been exceptional in their efforts to provide food and other products to affected families. Currently, most families are displaced, so the focus is on supporting frontline workers who are still working tirelessly to contain the fires, followed by assisting the displaced families gradually."
McCord discussed her personal connection with individuals affected by wildfires, revealing that her son's school has 40 families who have lost their homes or were displaced.
Although her family and she were not affected by the fires, many in their community were. She remarks that the disaster has a profound impact on them in various ways.
"The hardest part has been watching people who were accustomed to supporting others, now in an uncomfortable position, losing everything overnight, and trying to explain it to their children while also working to get back on their feet, find a new home."
Despite the "layered and complicated" circumstances, McCord expressed optimism about the response, stating that she has witnessed Los Angeles coming together in a highly impactful manner.
The Frontline Impact Project is collaborating with Weelicious, Blue Lizard Sunscreen, Justin's Peanut Butter, Kachava All in One Nutrition, Love Corn Snacks, Banza Pasta, and Spindrift to provide their products to the frontlines.
At least 25 people have died and dozens are still missing in the disaster, while Cal Fire estimates that more than 12,000 structures were destroyed and over 40,600 acres were burned as of early Thursday morning.
