According to multiple sources, FBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge Alethea Duncan has been temporarily reassigned after her initial press conference where she declared: "This is not a terrorist event."
It was terrorism.
The FBI, Attorney General Merrick Garland, and President Biden all utilized the term "terrorism" in their respective statements following the original presser.
Duncan's new position with the FBI remains unclear, but she is still with the agency.
The FBI declined to comment.
On Bourbon Street, a man named Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42, drove his truck into a crowd celebrating New Year's, killing 14 and injuring many others. Following the attack, he exited his vehicle and began shooting at police officers, who retaliated and ultimately killed him.
Jabbar was pronounced dead at the scene.
Jabbar, who is from Houston, bought two coolers and drove to New Orleans on Dec. 31 to conceal IEDs in them as part of his planned attack.
After the New Year's Day chaos on Bourbon Street, Duncan stated at a press conference that the attack was not related to terrorism.
Duncan stated during the presser that we will be assuming the lead in the investigation of this event, which is not a terrorist act.
The mayor of New Orleans revealed during a press conference that the city had indeed experienced a terror attack.
Mayor LaToya Cantrell, a Democrat who has been in office since 2018, stated at a press conference that the city of New Orleans was affected by a terrorist attack, and the investigation is ongoing.
The FBI released three statements on the day of the attack, as previously stated by Planet Chronicle Digital.
In subsequent press conferences, Duncan stated that the attack is being probed as an act of terrorism.
