The father of the Georgia school shooting suspect requests separation from other inmates due to concerns for his personal safety.
Colt Gray, the suspect in the Apalachee High School shooting, is Colin Gray's son.
The attorneys for Colt Gray's father are requesting that he be kept apart from other inmates to safeguard his well-being.
Colin Gray, who is charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder, and eight counts of second-degree cruelty to children in connection to the Sept. 4 attack in Winder, Georgia, has had his lawyers request a bond in a filing Wednesday with Barrow County Superior Court.
The extensive media coverage has resulted in a public perception discerned through local and national media, particularly social media, leading to an overwhelming amount of threats against the Defendant, calling for harm, violence, and even death.
The lawyers stated that "the community of Barrow County has been significantly impacted by the actions of inmates, both present and future, who may wish to harm the Defendant, making it irresponsible to assume there are no inmates with such intentions."
"As a result of the constant supervision required in a custodial setting for a high-profile defendant, there are numerous opportunities for individuals to inflict violence on the defendant," they stated.
"The Defendant would request the court to order the Sheriff of Barrow County to keep him separate from other inmates to ensure his safety."
The Barrow County Sheriff's Office declined to provide a comment to Planet Chronicle Digital on Thursday.
Four people were killed and nine were injured during the high school shooting.
