The father of the Georgia high school shooting suspect disclosed to investigators that his son had issues at his previous school.
Colin Gray and his son, Colt Gray, are both accused of wrongdoing following an alleged shooting incident at Apalachee High School.
The suspect's father previously told investigators that the 14-year-old accused of opening fire at a small Georgia high school had some problems at his former middle school.
On Wednesday, Apalachee High School was the scene of a deadly rampage, and both Colin Gray and his son, Colt Gray, are now facing charges.
An incident report obtained by Planet Chronicle Digital revealed that investigators were summoned to the Gray family home in Jefferson, Georgia, in May 2023 due to allegations that the 13-year-old had threatened to shoot up the local public middle school on the social media app Discord.
Colin Gray stated in an interview with investigators that his son faced difficulties at West Jackson Middle School but that the situation had improved significantly since the child transferred to a new school.
Colin Gray, 54, told investigators that he recently divorced his wife and as a result, Colt and his two younger siblings were separated. While Colt resided with his father, the two younger siblings remained with their mother.
In 2023, the teenager stated to investigators that he had never made any comments about shooting up a school or heard anyone discussing it.
Planet Chronicle Digital has reached out to Discord for comment.
During the interview, the 13-year-old appeared "quiet, calm and reserved," according to investigators' observations.
Colin Gray stated to investigators that he owned hunting rifles in the house, but his teenage son did not have unrestricted access to the firearms.
The report stated that Colt is permitted to utilize them under supervision but does not have unrestricted access to them.
Over a year has passed, and the teenager is now being charged with shooting at Apalachee High School. During the incident, two students and two teachers were killed: Mason Schermerhorn, 14, Christian Angulo, 14, Richard Aspinwall, 39, and Christina Irimie, 53.
On Wednesday morning at Apalachee High School, four people were killed and nine others were injured when the suspect opened fire and surrendered to school resource officers inside the school.
The small community was shaken by the tragic high school shooting, and it is anticipated that the perpetrator, Gray, will be charged as an adult. He has been transported to the Regional Youth Detention Center in Gainesville, Georgia. Gray will have a virtual appearance before a judge at 8:30 a.m. on Friday.
The GBI announced on Thursday that the elder Gray was arrested and charged with two counts of second-degree murder, four counts of involuntary manslaughter, and eight counts of cruelty to children in connection with the shooting.
