The family in Los Angeles employed a cost-effective method to transport water from their pool in an attempt to safeguard their home from wildfires.
The family's swimming pool, pump, generator, fire hose, and sprinkler were used in their system.
The Palisades Highlands family in Los Angeles saved their house from the wildfires using their swimming pool, generator, sprinkler, pump, and fire hose.
Cali_._love, an Instagram user, wrote that the system is "easy to operate and budget-friendly," while sharing a video of them using it to water their hillside home's vegetation.
"I am certain that this generator, pump, pool, sprinkler, and fire hose saved our family home. My dad was so determined to have one for all the neighbors, and he was right as he has been many times in his career."
To drain two swimming pools, they ran their equipment for 10 hours over two days, soaking the plants and their roof. Unfortunately, when they returned the next day, they found that the bottom half of the palm tree had burned along with the entire hillside.
"If this had not existed, there would be no house and possibly no neighbors. We were fortunate. We were ready. Yes, there were things we would have done differently," they wrote.
They were determined to promote their system for swimming pool safety after their house did not catch fire.
They said even without a pool there are other water storage solutions.
"We encountered a lot of threatening embers and live fire while doing our rounds on the neighbors' homes and our dear family friends. It was a challenge to put them all out, but we did the best we could with buckets and their pools. If they had this, we would have been 100x more efficient."
Anyone interested in safeguarding their homes could witness a demonstration of the system.
