""
According to authorities, Alston escaped from his guards while on the way to UNC Hillsborough Hospital around 7 a.m. on Tuesday.
He was given a life sentence for the 2015 Christmas Day murder of 1-year-old Maleah Williams.
A reward of $35,000 is being offered by authorities for information leading to the capture of the suspect. They are requesting home security camera owners in the area to examine their footage for any possible evidence.
Blackwood stated that law enforcement has "no concrete leads" regarding his whereabouts after he may have headed north following his escape.
"The sheriff stated, "When he ran, he had dreadlocks." However, it is uncertain whether he cut them or not."
Despite escaping, Alston remained handcuffed and wearing a chain around his waist, a gray T-shirt, brown pants, and white New Balance sneakers.
He was last seen running into the woods near the hospital.
Another update on the manhunt was anticipated to be given by authorities at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
In 2015, Alston was one of two gunmen involved in a drive-by shooting in Chapel Hill, as reported by the News & Observer. During the shooting, one of the bullets struck Maleah in the back of her head while her mother held her.
