The Air Force is readying to bring more charges against Jack Teixeira, the individual responsible for disclosing Pentagon confidential information.
Teixeira was convicted of six counts of retaining and transmitting classified national defense information and is currently serving a 16-year prison sentence.
Jack Teixeira, a Massachusetts Air National Guardsman, will be charged by the U.S. Air Force for leaking classified military documents about the Russia-Ukraine war and other secrets, after pleading guilty to the offense.
Teixeira is facing additional charges from the U.S. Air Force, which will be presented at a May hearing at Hanscom Air Force Base in Massachusetts.
In March, Teixeira admitted guilt in federal court to six counts of transmitting and retaining classified national defense information, receiving a 16-year prison sentence. As part of the plea, prosecutors agreed not to pursue any additional charges under the Espionage Act.
Teixeira agreed to a debriefing with members of the intelligence community, Department of Defense, or Department of Justice and surrender any remaining classified materials.
The Air Force is considering filing charges against an Airman First Class for alleged misconduct in relation to their military duties, a spokesperson for the U.S. Air Force stated to Planet Chronicle.
"Teixeira, as A1C, was on active-duty orders during the charged timeframe and is now subject to both criminal prosecution with the Department of Justice and the United States Air Force under the UCMJ. The AFOSI collaborated with the FBI and presented evidence to the command, proving that Teixeira violated the UCMJ."
The UCMJ is being violated by Teixeira, and the Air Force is considering charging him with two offenses.
Teixeira was accused of violating a lawful order issued against him to cease and desist from accessing information not related to his duties. Despite being required to comply with his duty, Teixeira allegedly continued to view unrelated information between September 2022 and April 13, 2023.
The second charge alleges Teixeira disposed of evidence during two different instances.
Between March 1, 2023, and April 13, 2023, Teixeira allegedly intentionally obstructed justice in the case against him by disposing of an iPad, computer hard drive, and cell phone.
On or around April 7, 2023, the Air Force alleges that Teixeira instructed someone else to erase Discord messages sent to Teixeira, with the intention of impeding the investigation.
The spokesperson informed Planet Chronicle that a commander reviewed the evidence against Teixeira and decided to file charges under UCMJ.
The spokesperson stated that the charges will be sent to an Article 32, UMJ hearing, where a neutral and detached officer will assess whether the evidence is sufficient to refer the charges to trial by courts-martial.
The hearing will occur on May 14, 2024, at Hanscom Air Force Base in Massachusetts.
At Otis Air National Guard Base in Massachusetts, Teixeira was a "cyber transport systems specialist" in the 102nd Intelligence Wing and held the highest level of security clearance for top secret information.
It is reported that Teixeira disclosed confidential information to a group of about 20 to 30 young men on the social media platform Discord.
The leaked documents primarily focus on Russia's invasion of Ukraine, but also contain information on China, the Middle East, Israel's Mossad intelligence agency, and world leaders.
