Texas police warn that thieves are stealing copper from power lines in broad daylight, and they will stop at nothing to get their hands on it.
Beware of Criminals Posing as Officials, Warns Police
There has been an increase in copper thefts in Garland, Texas, with some occurring during the day.
Lt. Pedro Barineau stated in an X video posted Tuesday that there has been an increase in copper thefts and the perpetrators are committing these crimes in broad daylight.
Barineau stated that the criminals would use any means necessary, including pole saws, handsaws, or climbing utility poles, to achieve their goals.
"Although these individuals may appear official with reflective vests and hard hats, they are not legitimate," Barineau stated.
According to Barineau, these copper thieves use unmarked vehicles that are actually just regular cars, vans, or trucks.
Some of these thefts have taken place during the day and in broad daylight, according to Barineau.
We are urging you to report any suspicious activity you observe. If you notice something, speak up, said Barineau.
