Tesla driver released from jail after less than a year for California road-rage attacks, despite pipe-wielding conviction.
A 37-year-old man was found guilty of assaulting female motorists with a pipe on Southern California highways.
A Tesla driver who attacked other motorists on Southern California roads was released from prison after serving less than a year of a five-year term, despite the outrage of his victims.
In September 2023, Nathaniel Radimak, 37, was convicted of assault, vandalism, elder abuse, and making criminal threats after a series of violent attacks.
Radimak was notorious for targeting women with his Tesla and using a pipe as a weapon.
The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation informed Planet Chronicle Digital that Radimak received 424 days of credit for time served prior to his sentence. Additionally, he was eligible to earn additional credit for good behavior while in prison.
On Aug. 28, 2024, Radimak was released from prison in Los Angeles County and placed under parole supervision, having completed his sentence as mandated by law.
Radimak's victims were outraged upon his release, as they felt they were not consulted and had no opportunity to contest the decision. They claimed that the justice system had failed them by not allowing them to be heard.
One unidentified victim stated during a virtual news conference that it is hard to believe such a brief sentence would lead to any behavioral change or rehabilitation, given the length of time the offender has been committing crimes, alongside attorney Gloria Allred.
"Another person expressed concern that he may attempt to locate victims whose names have been made public, stating, 'He is a threat to society, and I strongly oppose his early release.'"
Some said they were afraid that Radimak would possibly retaliate against them.
"Many of the victims I represent were shocked and disappointed by his early release," Allred stated.
The District Attorney's Office in Los Angeles County does not decide when an inmate is released.
"The DA's office stated that their thoughts are with the survivors of the attacks by Mr. Radimak and that they are still recovering from his senseless actions. However, the DA's office clarified that they do not have the authority to determine when an inmate will be released from custody. This responsibility falls under the jurisdiction of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, who is also responsible for notifying victims."
