Ten members of Tren de Aragua were arrested by Aurora PD in connection with apartment building takeovers, according to a statement.
The city of Aurora has not been "taken over" by Tren de Aragua.
Ten members of the Tren de Aragua gang were arrested in Aurora, Colorado, and released on a $1,000 bond.
"Since before TdA concerns in Colorado gained national attention, APD had been arresting individuals suspected of TdA connections for various criminal activities. Now, APD has linked 10 people to TdA and arrested eight of them. Two of the eight arrested were involved in a July shooting at a specific property in the city that has experienced issues with TdA activity. As a result of these arrests, we can now confirm that criminal activity, including TdA issues, has significantly affected those properties."
The Aurora Police Department has arrested 10 members of Tren de Aragua, a transnational prison gang based in Venezuela, for committing acts of violence against members of the migrant community. The charges include child abuse, attempted first-degree murder, illegal discharge of a firearm, and more. All 10 are listed as "documented members of TdA." One of the arrest warrants dates back to November 2023 in connection with an assault at the Whispering Pines apartments in Aurora. ICE has confirmed that Aurora, Colorado gang members are in the United States illegally, released by the Biden administration. Aurora officials have also addressed misleading social media claims and certain media organizations regarding the perception and reality of public safety in Aurora.
A group of law enforcement agencies has formed a joint task force to tackle the Tren de Aragua gang's activity in the area, following recent arrests in Arapahoe County and Denver. The task force comprises Aurora PD and other local, state, and federal partners.
We will persist in being the most diverse city in Colorado and remain firm in our dedication to apprehending wrongdoers.
In 2019, Governor Jared Polis signed HB19-1124, making Colorado a sanctuary state that does not enforce immigration law or cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers. After Democrat Gov. Polis faced criticism for calling apartment takeovers caught on camera in Aurora "imagination," his office responded to Planet Chronicle Digital's request for comment on the 10 Tren de Aragua arrests. A spokesperson for Governor Polis stated that Aurora is a great city with more than 400,000 hardworking Coloradans and a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family. The Governor hopes that there has not been reputational damage from previous, cynical statements made by certain city officials.
