Teen suspect's mother's criminal history adds to the growing portrait of the family's challenging upbringing in Georgia.
The mother of the 14-year-old Apalachee High School shooting suspect had a criminal record.
According to new details, the 14-year-old Georgia high school student's mother has a criminal record.
Marcee Anne Gray, the 43-year-old suspect mother, has a criminal record that includes drug use and property damage, according to police and court records viewed by Planet Chronicle Digital.
The teen suspect, who is accused of shooting and killing two teachers and two students at Apalachee High School, was from a divorced family. The 14-year-old lived with his father, Colin Gray, while his two younger siblings resided with their mother, Marcee Gray.
In November 2023, Marcee Gray was apprehended for etching two phrases onto her husband's truck and for possessing illegal substances.
The warrant for Gray's arrest indicates that he had a jar of methamphetamine, a baggie of fentanyl, another baggie of muscle relaxants, and a glass pipe used for consuming narcotics.
The warrant states that she covered up the identity of her Nissan Rogue car by attaching a tag for a Nissan Kick.
In December 2023, Marcee Gray was charged and pleaded guilty to using a license plate to conceal identity, criminal damage to property in the second degree, and criminal trespass/family violence.
Marcee Gray was charged under Georgia's First Offender Act, which lets defendants plead guilty without being convicted. Under the state's First Offender Act, Gray spent the first 46 days in jail instead of the full 5 years of her sentence.
For the remainder of the sentence, she was on probation.
Gray was prohibited from directly communicating with her husband, Colin Gray, while under probation, as per the documents.
In addition to the 43-year-old being ordered to attend a family violence intervention program, they were also instructed to abstain from drug and alcohol use.
The mother of the suspected teen shooter had a criminal history, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
In 2014, Gray was charged with a misdemeanor traffic violation in Forsyth County and a speeding offense in Barrow County. Additionally, she was accused in 2008 of a 2007 offense, which involved driving under the influence of alcohol, according to the outlet.
According to court records obtained by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, she pleaded guilty to traffic violation offenses and was fined $600 and required to perform 40 hours of community service.
On Wednesday, Colin, the father of a teen suspect, was arrested and charged with two counts of second-degree murder, four counts of involuntary manslaughter, and eight counts of cruelty to children, as per the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).
Few details have been disclosed about the father's alleged involvement in the shooting, despite previous statements that the teen's parents were cooperating with law enforcement.
The father and son are scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing in December, while the mother has not been implicated in the high school shooting.
On Friday, it was unclear who was representing the Grays, so Planet Chronicle Digital contacted Marcee Gray for comment.
