Two Jewish students at the University of Pittsburgh were injured in an alleged attack with a glass bottle, the university announced.
Near the Cathedral of Learning on the Pittsburgh campus, students were attacked around 11:30 p.m. on Friday, as stated by the Pennsylvania college.
Two students, who were wearing traditional Jewish yarmulkes, were injured in the attacks and treated at the scene, the university stated.
The university stated that the suspected offender, who had no university affiliation, was promptly apprehended by Pitt Police.
The suspect was adorned with a kaffiyeh, a traditional Middle Eastern scarf symbolizing support for Palestinians.
The Hillel University Center and the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh were also contacted by university leaders.
The university condemned the attack, calling it "appalling."
"It is stated that no acts of violence or antisemitism will be tolerated." "Local and federal partners are assisting Pitt Police in this ongoing investigation."
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro stated that "there is no room for antisemitism or hate-driven violence in our community."
No matter your appearance, background, or religious beliefs, you deserve to feel safe on campus in Pennsylvania," Shapiro wrote on X. "As an investigation continues, it's important to remember that antisemitism and hate-driven violence have no place in our state.
"We are praying for the injured students and the Pitt community, along with Lori."

Since the Oct. 7 Hamas attacks, which resulted in the deaths of approximately 1,200 Israelis and the kidnapping of more than 240 others, antisemitism has been on the rise in the U.S.
The ongoing protests and sit-ins on college campuses are a result of the Hamas attacks and subsequent Israel-Hamas war.
