Shocking details of a horrific murder in the 'safest city in America' in 2023 have emerged.
A horrific murder has occurred in Ridgefield, Connecticut, one of the safest towns in America in 2023.
A 31-year-old man has been arrested for murder after brutally killing his father in a shocking incident that has left one of the oldest and safest towns in America stunned.
On Saturday, Steven James Uricchio of Ridgefield, Connecticut, was arrested for murder following a domestic violence incident in which his father was found dead in the residence. The suspect was held on a $1.5 million bond over the weekend and did not enter a plea at his court appearance on Monday, according to online records.
The 83-year-old father of the suspect was identified as the victim by the Ridgefield Police Department. The police report obtained by The Hour stated that the victim's face, abdomen, and groin were mutilated, and his internal organs were found outside his body.
At the arraignment hearing, Danbury State’s Attorney David Applegate characterized the crime as "horrific" without providing additional information, according to The Hour.
Uricchio is next due in court on Sept. 4.
The police report reviewed by The Hour stated that Ridgefield police responded to a domestic incident call at Powerderhorn Drive at 1 a.m. Saturday, where the caller claimed to have injured his father.
According to the report, officers instructed Uricchio to step toward them with his arms extended when they arrived at the house and discovered him with his hands in the air wearing a dark blue T-shirt and boxer shorts.
According to police, Uricchio confessed to murdering his father, saying, "really, really badly."
According to police, the suspect, Uricchio, was handcuffed and asked about his father's location. He stated that his father was in his upstairs bedroom.
The police report states that officers discovered blood on the steps and walls, as well as a bloodied knife at the top of the stairs, according to The Hour.
Marc Uricchio was discovered in his bedroom, lying on the ground, facing the doorway, with some of his internal organs found outside his body, police said. The victim had reportedly been mutilated and paramedics declared him dead at the scene.
Steven Uricchio was taken into custody and charged with murder.
Since 2003, Ridgefield had not reported any homicides, as stated by police Capt. Jeffrey Raines to the News-Times.
Last year, Ridgefield was ranked as the safest city in America by NeighborhoodScout, with a crime rate of 1.9 per 1,000 residents and a 1 in 510 chance of becoming a victim.
Uricchio was taken to Danbury Hospital and secured to a hospital bed for examination by medical staff, according to police.
The suspect admitted to doctors that he had not taken his prescribed medication in a month or two and occasionally used cannabis, according to The Hour.
He returned to police custody after his discharge from the hospital.
The investigation is being led by the Ridgefield Police Department's Detective Division and the Connecticut State Police Western District Major Crime Squad.
