Sheriff: 9-year-old in Florida died after father's girlfriend directed rottweiler to attack her.
First-degree murder, aggravated child abuse, and child neglect charges have been filed against Tyshael Elise Martin.
This week, a Lake County, Florida, mother was arrested for the alleged murder of her boyfriend's 9-year-old daughter, as per officials.
On Wednesday evening, at approximately 6 PM, the Lake County Sheriff's Office arrested Tyshael Elise Martin, a 34-year-old woman, near her Montverde home. She was charged with first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse, and child neglect.
On June 17, emergency crews were called to Martin's home after a report was made that 9-year-old Jamaria Sessions was unresponsive.
Upon the arrival of emergency personnel, they discovered the child with multiple abrasions, bruises, burns, and possible bite marks, prompting sheriff's deputies to respond.
The medical examiner's investigation revealed that the child's injuries were consistent with physical abuse, according to a press release.
The family's security system provided video footage to detectives as part of the sheriff's office's investigation.
On the night of June 15, Jamaria was reportedly attacked by the family's 103-pound Rottweiler, with Martin allegedly directing the dog to assault the child.
The video allegedly showed Martin kicking Jamaria repeatedly while she was motionless on the floor, according to detectives.
The video purportedly depicts Martin carrying the girl's body across the floor while she struggled and shook. According to authorities, Martin may have said, "I'm about to kill her."
Jamaria's punishment, as reported by the station, involved extended time sitting at a wall, running in place with her hands raised, being hit with various objects, and being kicked, punched, and pinched, as evidenced by interviews, videos, and text messages.
On Tuesday, the investigators received the autopsy report on the child, Jamaria, which stated that her death was caused by multiple blunt injuries to her head, torso, and extremities, as well as an injury to her right foot. The manner of death was ruled as homicide, according to deputies.
Martin was taken into custody and placed in the Lake County jail without being released on bond.
