Several people are injured after a drone crashes into a Boston Celtics watch party during the NBA's opening night.
The NBA Championship celebration for the Celtics in 2024 was taking place as the new season began.
On Tuesday night, people at City Hall Plaza in Boston watched the Boston Celtics' opening night watch party and celebrated their recent NBA Championship. However, a falling drone injured some and sent at least one person to the hospital.
At least three individuals were injured by a falling drone near the plaza at 7:30 p.m., coinciding with the start of the Celtics vs. Knicks game.
According to Boston 25, Yousef Kobeissi, who was struck by a drone, described the sound of the drone crashing as a "banging sound."
Kobeissi stated, "I heard a loud banging sound, felt something sharp hit my head, and then heard the woman next to me scream as if she was going to fall."
A woman was transported on a stretcher following a collision with a drone, according to witnesses, as reported by Boston 25.
Derek Scrima, who claimed the drone cut two of his fingers when it slammed down, said, "I was standing in shock for an hour and a half, saying, 'Oh my gosh'."
Scrima was caught off guard and felt scared because her mind was convinced she could have lost her two fingers.
After the incident, TNT, the network that aired the game on Tuesday night, released a statement.
Unfortunately, a drone incident occurred at tonight's event, prompting on-site medical and safety personnel to attend to the situation. The network is currently investigating the matter and wishes all involved well.
The 2024-25 NBA season commenced on Tuesday with the Celtics defending their NBA title against the Dallas Mavericks.
The Celtics have won a league-record 18 championships. After winning another title, they celebrated with a ring ceremony and raised another banner.
