San Francisco residents focus on the future after removing the Democratic mayor to address homelessness and drug issues.
Following his election, San Francisco Mayor-elect Daniel Lurie pledged to tidy up the city.
With the election of San Francisco Mayor-elect Daniel Lurie, Democrats in California are hoping to start anew.
Lurie, a first-time candidate and Levi Strauss heir, positioned himself as a tough-on-crime alternative to Breed's lax policies on crime, drug use, and homelessness that plague the city.
By a more than 10-point margin, Lurie won the election against Breed, the city's first Black woman mayor, with 56% of the vote compared to 43%.
In his inaugural address as mayor-elect, Lurie pledged to prioritize "clean and safe streets for everyone, addressing our drug and addiction epidemic, reforming the inefficient and corrupt administration, increasing affordable housing options, supporting local businesses, and revitalizing downtown."
San Francisco's recent lows led to the change, according to Steve Hilton, a Planet Chronicle contributor and former British Prime Minister David Cameron's aide.
"This city, renowned for its grandeur and significance, has deteriorated into lawlessness and degradation due to the influence of far-left policies, as the Democrats have held power for an extended period," Hilton stated. "You can observe drug markets operating openly, homeless camps scattered throughout, and crime rates soaring."
Finally, people have had enough, and they want change," he said. "So they kicked out Mayor London Breed and elected Daniel Lurie. He's a Democrat, but a reasonable one. He wants to clean up this city.
"Across the board, there's a desire for change in California."
Lurie's election, as per the hopes of Democrats in California's once-celebrated city, could bring about change.
Lurie's policies are being implemented and 17-year-old San Francisco resident and professional sports shooter, Chis Cheng, is thrilled about it.
"I'm excited about the election results here for mayor. Although I used to support London Breed, the past few years have been tough in the city. However, the past few months have gotten better, but it's been too little, too late."
"I voted for Daniel Lurie and I believe he's the best choice for mayor to address the challenges in certain parts of San Francisco, particularly in my neighborhood, which has its fair share of homelessness and drug addicts, despite being a nice neighborhood that typically does not have that," Cheng added.
"The character of certain San Francisco neighborhoods that were once safe for kids has changed. We need someone like Daniel Lurie to enforce the law, clean up our streets and make them safe again. Let's turn the corner in San Francisco."
California Democratic Political Consultant Lee Neves hopes the party moderates after the city's mayoral results, as stated to Planet Chronicle Digital.
"On Tuesday, voters in San Francisco and the Bay Area sent a clear message: they are fed up with the current state of affairs. They are tired of the soft-on-crime policies and the excuses for homelessness. What they want now is action, they want the homeless off the streets and out of their parks."
Voters are tired of the current situation and demand the Democratic Party to moderate their policies.
"People can feel safe in their community if we gather at the center where they are."
