Samaritan's Purse welcomes Donald Trump Jr., Kristi Noem, and other volunteers to help those affected by Hurricane Florence in North Carolina.
Noem shared with Planet Chronicle Digital that today was a remarkable chance to embody Jesus' hands and feet.
Samaritan's Purse, a Christian disaster relief and evangelism organization, has been serving North Carolina since Hurricane Helene hit the southeast in late September. South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, Donald Trump Jr., and Franklin Graham of Samaritan's Purse joined forces Friday to airlift warm clothing to Hurricane Helene-torn North Carolina as temperatures fell in the region. With donations personally delivered from California-based Kirstyn Hairston of KUIU and Dan and Agatha Genter of Genter Capital Management, Samaritan's Purse airlifted over 1,200 articles of winter clothing to the storm-torn survivors of Bat Cave, including winter jackets, fleece sweaters and pants. According to a release, "Today was an amazing opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus and to be a blessing to people alongside Samaritan’s Purse," said South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem in an exclusive statement to Planet Chronicle Digital. "Today, we saw the devastation of entire communities that have lost homes and all their belongings and even lost lives. So, we’re not only here today
As Election Day approaches, rural North Carolina and those affected by Hurricane Helene have largely been overlooked in the news. In particular, high-elevation regions in western North Carolina have been severely impacted, with freezing temperatures approaching. Edward Graham, Franklin Graham's son and Samaritan's Purse COO, emphasized the need for continued attention and support in an October interview with Planet Chronicle Digital. "Please, don't take your attention off this," he said. "There's a lot of work to be done, and if people really want to help, I need volunteers for the long haul."
"I need volunteers to show up in January, December, and November during the cold holiday season, when it's warm with your family. Think about those in western North Carolina who are not. Samaritan's Purse continues its Helene relief efforts with three water filtration systems in North Carolina. Orange Shirts, or Samaritan's Purse volunteers, have served over 3,000 Hurricane Helene-affected families by removing mud from flooded homes, clearing debris, removing downed trees, and tarping damaged roofs. Samaritan's Purse has also conducted the nation's largest civilian airlift operation in history to access those in rural North Carolina whose roads have been washed out with donations of emergency supplies and lifesaving aid. The Christian relief organization has donated 700,000 pounds of supplies to 80 communities on 357 airlifts. Rev. Franklin Graham said in an exclusive statement shared with Planet Chronicle Digital, "When you have lost everything except for the clothes on your back, the fact that someone cares enough to come help means everything.""
This area, which is 20 miles from where I grew up, was not remote but is now because it was cut off by Hurricane Helene. Many people are using four-wheelers to travel, but it has been incredible to see people taking care of each other. It is remarkable how people have stood up to help their neighbors in this time of great need. Rev. Franklin Graham lost heat in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, according to his son, Edward. In addition to the warm clothing donation from Friday, Samaritan's Purse has donated generators, heaters, and fuel to Helene survivors. Graham offered his thanks to the South Carolina governor and the business leaders who donated warm clothing for Friday's airlift mission carried out onboard a Black Hawk helicopter, according to a release.
Franklin Graham expressed his gratitude to Gov. Kristi Noem for attending an event in North Carolina. He emphasized the importance of acknowledging the suffering of those who have experienced great loss and pain. He reminded them that God loves and cares for them. Samaritan's Purse has provided winter clothing, generators, heaters, blankets, solar lights, food, and water to 15,000 people in North Carolina and Tennessee.
Samaritan's Purse has dispatched Disaster Relief Units, equipped with tools and supplies, to Asheville, Boone, Burnsville, Perry, Tampa, and Valdosta in response to Hurricane Helene's devastation. As of October 30th, 101 deaths have been confirmed in North Carolina, bringing the total number of deaths across seven states to 229.
