In his office, the New Orleans Parish's assistant attorney general, Ian Kersting, was discovered dead by apparent suicide, according to police.
On Saturday evening, at approximately 9 p.m., the body of a 34-year-old man was discovered at the District Attorney's Office in New Orleans with "apparent self-inflicted gunshot wounds," as confirmed by the New Orleans Police Department to WVUE-DT.
The police confirmed to the outlet that New Orleans EMS arrived at the scene, but he was pronounced dead.

Kersting, 34, was admitted to the Louisiana bar in October 2020.
As a specialist in sexual harassment cases, he was assigned to the Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI) in the District Attorney's Office. The initiative collaborated with the New Orleans Police Department to investigate and prosecute sex crimes using DNA evidence.
The New Orleans District Attorney's Office issued a statement expressing grief over the demise of a "cherished colleague" within the office.
"The Orleans Parish DA's Office family experienced a devastating loss on Saturday night with the passing of Assistant District Attorney Ian Kersting. We express our deepest sympathy and love to his family."
